Welcome to the web page of Bikesafe for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
The start of the new biking season will soon be upon us, 2007 was a poor year for motorcycle related collisions in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, 20 riders have lost their lives through motorcycle related collisions and over 275 have received serious injuries.
The confirmed statistics will be announced in the Department for Transport Road Casualties Great Britain 2007 which becomes available in June 2008. |
It doesn’t matter how long you have held your licence you can still learn new skills to help us to reduce the level of killed and serious injury collisions. Personal attitude is another factor behind a minority of riders; we are constantly receiving complaints of excess noise and motorcycles being ridden at excess speeds. It is the minority that give the majority a bad name.
Stunt riding on public roads seems to have increased in the last year and pulling wheelies, intentional or otherwise featured in four of the fatal collisions that we have been recorded. |

The most common themes that are present in many collisions are:-
- Other vehicles emerging from junctions into the path of a rider
- Motorcycles overtaking other vehicles on the approach to a junction
- Filtering through traffic on motorways and dual carriageways at inappropriate speeds
- Group Riding
All of these hazards could be reduced if riders use a systematic approach to how they ride; Bikesafe aims to give information to riders to reduce the risk of being involved in a collision.
Whether you drive or ride take extra care on the approach to hazards such as junctions or garage/pub forecourts. Overtake safely after the junction or entrance.

Are there any informal rider workshops where I can come and meet and chat?
During the spring and summer months there will be various informal rider workshops held at different locations and times where there will be a rider workshop staffed by Bikesafe Officers to discuss any fears or reservations that you may have.
As soon as we have a calendar of events we will publicise it.
The main events will be at
British Superbikes – Thruxton 19th-20th April on the Think Motorcycle Academy Stand,
Motorcycle World Beaulieu 5th-6th July 2008,
Crescent Suzuki Open Weekend.
Various events during the year at LOOMIES Café West Meon Hut Cross Roads (A32/A272)
All that we ask for is common sense and help to help us reduce the amount of killed and seriously injured people involved in motorcycle collisions.

Not For Road Use
In 2005 several people found out the hard way that Mini Motos are
Not for Road Use. A disqualified rider was found riding
one on a road, he went to court and was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment,
and another was stopped riding while the level of alcohol in his body
was above the prescribed limit its a hard way to lose
your licence over what starts as a laugh. Mini Motos and Go Peds are
not road legal, the picture below is a promotional item supplied by
Vehicle X-tremes Ltd and painted by Racepaint UK of Nottingham.
