Day
Ride Outs
The
Gwent day ride outs will be run from Abergavenny Bus Station Car Park,
and will centre around the Nationwide BikeSafe strategy aiming to
reduce the number of motorcycle crash
casualties
by promoting safer riding and responsible attitude.
It is aimed at all categories of motorcyclists and is an attempt to
increase motorcyclists awareness. it is further hoped that though
encouragement, self policing, and promoting a healthy and responsible
rider/driver attitude including the breaking down of perceived/misconceived
barriers and perceptions that the common goal of Road Safety and Reduction
in Road Crashes can be achieved.
The initiative will offer accompanied
"ride outs" at the end of which a thorough debrief will
be given, offering advice and constructive comments. Riders undertaking
the assessment do so voluntarily, understanding that they remain solely
liable and responsible for their own actions.
There
is no charge made for assessed rides and persons wishing to take part
will be able to pre-book their "ride out" via email or telephone, or even turn up on the day. However with limited capacity
pre-booking is advised.
For
people considering additional training, e.g. through the Institute
of Advanced Motorcyclists or Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents
it may allay fears and provide an insight into advanced riding etc.
Information as to where to go for advanced training will be available.
There will be help and advice on motorcycle security and crime prevention.
Datatag readers will also be on hand as well as a selection of security
devices. Police motorcyclists, most of whom have machines themselves,
will be available for advice on aspects of road safety/condition/legality
or to discuss "Roadcraft".
We
want to hear the views of riders, YOUR VIEWS, on how to combat and
deter the rogue element of motorcyclist's intent only on their own
"sense of purpose" to the detriment of all. The ride out
and debrief will take approx 1 hour.
One-to-one
ride outs on Sundays (10.00am to 4.00pm) from Abergavenny Bus Station.
