Welcome to the BikeSafe Dorset website

BIKESAFE DORSET GEARS UP FOR A SAFER SUMMER
BikeSafe Dorset is back and 2009 is set to be bigger and better than ever for the educational initiative - with motorcyclists receiving even more expert riding advice.
This year, Dorset Police and Dorset County Council are working together to provide motorcyclists with a session of classroom-based tuition plus a practical ride-out with police motorcycling professionals.
BikeSafe Dorset offers motorcyclists the chance to gain advice and tips on a range of subjects to make their riding even safer - including cornering, positioning, overtaking, correct use of gears and hazard perception.
Police Constable (PC) Chris Smith is the BikeSafe co-ordinator in Dorset. He said: "The BikeSafe course is a fantastic opportunity for bikers to brush up on their riding, especially after a long cold winter when many won't have had chance to get their bikes out on the roads.
"We've updated it this year so that participants can come along to a theory session and then take part in a ride-out with me and my fellow Dorset Police motorcyclists.
"We are all passionate about motorcycling but we also want to make sure fellow motorcyclists are safe on the roads."
Dorset County Council's cabinet member for transport, Geoffrey Brierley, said: "Motorcyclists make up only a small percentage of road traffic but are disproportionately represented in road crash statistics. This opportunity to work with Dorset Police to promote Bikesafe Dorset is an important initiative within Dorset County Council's casualty reduction strategy."
The BikeSafe Dorset theory session is free to attend and the second part of the course - the assessed practical ride - is offered at a subsidised rate of £40.00.
Participants must complete both parts in order to fully complete the BikeSafe Dorset course and be issued a certificate.
