Workshop Content
BikeSafe consists of a classroom session where riders will discuss safe riding techniques and a two-hour assessed ride.
Each BikeSafe course runs over two days.
Day one – classroom session
This session runs between 9.30am and 4.30pm. Candidates are provided with a free lunch.
The session covers a range of topics including:
•attitudes
•hazard awareness
•observation
•bike control
•positioning
•cornering
•braking
•overtaking
•correct use of gears
•group riding
The national BikeSafe DVD will be used throughout the session. The workshop aid uses computer-simulated rides to show motorcyclists how to stay safe on the roads.
Day two – two-hour assessed ride
This gives you the opportunity to put what you have learned so far into practice.
You can expect to cover up to 60 miles during your assessed ride. Your assessor will be particularly interested in how well you control your bike and how you react to the road conditions.
At the end of your ride, your assessor will give you advice about how to improve and may recommend an advanced riding qualification.
