What can you expect from the day?
We hold Bike Safe workshops on Saturdays throughout the summer season. The day starts at 8:30am with a check over your bike and documents, before you go into a theory session. The classroom theory involves participation rather than front loading information and covers all of the important subject areas
At the end of the theory session you will be introduced to your observer who will give you a briefing regarding your on road session. The observers will either be serving police motorcyclists, all of who ride every day, all year round, or a RoSPA/IAM civilian instructor, all of who run their own motorcycle training companies, and again, ride all year round. There will be 2 riders to each observer and we will try and pair you with someone of similar riding experience or ability, so that you get the best out of the day.
Your observer will then take you out for your practical road session. This will consist of approximately a 40-45 minute ride, where you will demonstrate your riding. Should your observer see anything that could be putting you, or other road users in danger, you will be stopped and the issue pointed out. If the ride is going well then you will complete your ride and a full de-brief given at the conclusion, which you will be able to take forward to your second ride.
Everyone meets at a local Café for Lunch, which is included in the price. If you can still move after the huge lunch they provide then we start the second on road session at approx. 2pm!
Following your afternoon ride, everyone meets back at South Woodham Ferrers for a de-brief before receiving some motorcycle goodies and your rider development form.
