BikeSafe is an initiative designed to help lower the number of motorcycle rider casualties.

By passing on their knowledge, skills and experience, Police motorcyclists can help you become a safer more competent rider. Riders from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), provide support with the delivery of our BikeSafe courses.

They help you to increase your ability and confidence, so you can get even more enjoyment from riding your motorcycle.

Merseyside BikeSafe Course consists of two days with a fully planned itinerary. All courses are run from the Emergency Services Centre, East Street, Birkenhead, CH41 1BY

Why attend a course?

As a motorcyclist, you are very vulnerable on the roads. The safety features that exist in four wheeled vehicles – such as seat belts, airbags, even the fact that the occupants are surrounded by a metal cage – all contribute to helping them keep safer on the roads. Motorcyclists are much smaller and can be more difficult to spot by other road users which is why you should wear high visibility and reflective wear over your leathers.

It is a sad fact that in Britain, motorbikes make up 1% of all vehicle traffic and yet account for approximately 20% of all collisions on the roads. As a motorcyclist you are about 45 times more likely to be killed in a collision on the roads than car drivers.

We want to reduce the numbers of people being killed and injured on their motorbikes. Attending a BikeSafe course is a great way to equip you with skills to help keep you safer. It also acts as a great taster for advanced riding courses.

We have received a great deal of praise for the course from those who have attended over the years. People do enjoy themselves, learn a lot – even the ones who thought there was nothing new that they could be taught! We even have people returning to do second or even third courses with us!
